Tallahassee Hotels
Most well-known for being the capital of Florida, Tallahassee is a vibrant city full of rich history. It was first chosen as the capital of the Florida Territory in 1824 because it was equidistant between St. Augustine and Pensacola, the two major cities in the territory at the time. A capitol building was built in 1845, but was later replaced in the 20th century. Now the capitol building is restored and serves as Florida Historic Capitol Museum — a great way to learn about the history of Tallahassee. Tallahassee is also home to two of Florida's best universities: Florida State University and Florida A&M University. These universities offer a variety of attractions including the Black Archives Research Center and Museum and the Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts. Other museums in the area include the Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science, Tallahassee Antique Car Museum, Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science, and Museum of Florida History. Tallahassee is host to many events throughout the year that visitors can enjoy. There's the North Florida State Fair in November, Tallahassee Blues Festival in February, and Tallahassee Film Festival in April — just to name a few. With the city being full of college students, nightlife here abounds. Besides bars and local nightclubs, there is the Tallahassee Symphony, Broadway plays, concerts and sporting events.
